Q. Will sweeping a chimney result in soot being put all over my home?
A clean sheet is laid on your floor in front of the fireplace. Dust sheets are placed over the fireplace with a powerful vacuum placed behind. This prevents any soot entering the room.
Q. How often should a chimney be swept?
It depends on the fuel you are burning, but you should always try to sweep your chimney every year. Sweeping your chimney will prevent the build up of soot and therefore reduce the risk of a chimney fire.
Chimneys with solid fuel appliances -
Smokeless fuels - At least once a year
Domestic bituminous coal - At least once a year
Chimneys with gas appliances - Once a year
Chimneys with wood burning appliances - Quarterly when in use
Chimneys with oil-fired appliances - Once a year
Q. When is the best time to have my chimney swept?
You should book a sweep in early spring or summer. If you do not sweep your chimney after it has been used over winter there is a danger of a build up of soot or soot falling (which may damage furnishings).
Q. Does a sweep have to go up on my roof to clean my chimney?
No, chimneys are swept from the fireplace and it will not be necessary for us to go up onto your roof.
